ALSO NEEDED:

A Tapestry or Yarn Needle to sew up your hat

ROW 1:  Knit 2, Purl 2, Knit 2, Purl 2, continue to end of row

FINISHING OFF

With your stitches still on the knitting needle, cut your yarn leaving about 8 inches as a tail. Thread the end of that tail through your tapestry/yarn needle and then draw it through the stitches left on your needle so that the tail is replacing the needle & the stitches are held together on the tail. Knitting Needle is put aside and keep the yarn needle on your tail.

Decide which side of the work will be the inside of the hat and which will be the outside. With the INSIDE facing outwards, pull on the last tail towards you to draw the last stitches together like a drawstring so the top of your hat closes up. Make sure it's together in an even circle at the top.

Using the yarn needle, much like sewing, thread the openings together with the tail to close up the top. Weave through a couple of stitiches to secure. Then bring the edges of the hat together making sure its even all the way along and sew the edges together until you are 2/3rds of the way down the hat. Weave through some stitches a couple of times to secure and you can cut off excess yarn. Then turn your hat right-side out so that the good side is showing. Use the tail where you began from and sew up the remainder of the edge. It's done this way so that when the brim is turned up the seam won't show!

That's all there is to it!! It gets easier & faster the more of them that you do. No you, too, have joined the ranks of Knitting 4 The Needy! Have fun & be proud of yourself!

*~*~TIP~*~*

A tapestry/yarn needle looks like a sewing needle but big enough to handle yarn!

*~*~TIP~*~*

If you don't already own knitting needles and want to purchase some, ask around first if anyone you know has some they can lend you to try out. Some people prefer the hard metal type, others prefer the more flexible plastic ones or there's even bamboo. You won't know which you prefer until you've knitted with them for awhile!
