A different way of helping those in need!
So, what do you want from me?
Absolutely nothing! We're not asking you to sign up, make a commitment, or give us anything. All we are trying to do is get the word/idea out, to help inspire as many people as possible to take part in something fun that also helps others.
Our only goal: The more people that can be helped, the better!
What is involved exactly and how do I take part?
Knitting 4 The Needy is exactly how it sounds. We knit items that are then donated to local homeless shelters for those in need during the cold winter months. The idea is to do something enjoyable that will also be beneficial for those less fortunate so it's a win-win! All we are doing is putting the idea out there and hoping it catches on!
Do I already need to know how to knit or be really good at it?
Not at all! We provide detailled tutorials and easy patterns on this website so ANYONE can join in!
What does it cost to do this & how much time does it take?
That's another advantage to this, you control everything! There's no set quota or deadline. You knit at your own pace and budget. We only provide a general outline as far as materials to use and we don't get specific so you can choose wool according to your own taste & finances as long as it matches the size required. As far as time, again, it's up to you & how much time you want to devote to knitting! We give ideas on this website about how to organize this as an activity with others but you can just as easily do it in your spare time while watching TV.
The choice is all yours!
Why not just volunteer or donate money to the shelters?
We applaud anything that is done to help others in need. Whatever works best for you, by any & all means we encourage it. Knitting 4 The Needy just puts a different spin on helping others. Not everyone has the time or ability to volunteer. Not everyone has the money to donate in one gesture. Our knitting projects are meant to be done on your own time, little by little, at your own pace and according to your own budget/ability.
Knitting 4 The Needy is a fun and rewarding way of putting a personal, homemade touch on donating as well as envoking a sense of pride and accomplishment at your own creation and at having helped others.

Just click the links at the bottom of the page to check out the website! We have sections on the materials you'll need, the patterns to follow and links to video tutorials on how to get it done! If you are looking for ideas on how to organize a group to get even more people to join in and make it into a social activity, there's a section for that too! You can follow our own endeavors and share yours with us on our Facebook Page. And we also give you ideas on how to donate your finished products.

Who can do this?
Literally ANYBODY. You don't even have to be the "crafty" type. This is a very easy, inexpensive, enjoyable activity that young and old alike can take part in. It's done at your own pace and ability. We're just here as a guide and to help you out!

Why don't you mention specific wool brands or store names?
One reason is because knitting is a creative & personal endeavor. There are as many different tastes and preferences as there are knitters. We give you the general info about the wool that should be used to suit the patterns but let you choose the brand and colours.
The other reason is because we don't want to give free advertising to any companies. If they'd like to supply us with free wool in return, however, we'll give them a public mention ;)
