Pattern

SIZE OF YARN NEEDED:

Look for this symbol on the label

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

TYPE OF NEEDLES REQUIRED:

Pair of single-point U.S. Size 7 / U.K. Size 7 / 4.5mm

 

ALSO NEEDED:

A Tapestry or Yarn Needle to sew the headband together

 

 

 

 

 

Cast on 24 stitches, leaving a 6 inch or so tail of wool that will be used to sew up the headband.

 

 

Knit every row (also known as Garter Stitch) until work is 3.5 inches long.

 

 

FIRST SHAPING:

 

ROW 1 (RS): Knit 2, Knit 2 together, Knit rest of row

 

ROW 2:  Knit all

 

ROW 3:  Knit all

 

ROW 4:  Knit all

 

Repeat those 4 rows until you are down to 12 stitches left and end after a 4th row.

 

 

Continue knitting every row again (Garter Stitich) until work measures 11.5 inches long.

 

 

SECOND SHAPING:

 

 

ROW 1 (RS):  Knit 2, Knit next stitich front & back (therefore adding a stitch), Knit rest of row

 

ROW 2:  Knit all

 

ROW 3:  Knit all

 

ROW 4: Knit all

 

Repeat those 4 rows until you have 24 stitches again and end after a 4th row.

 

Continue knitting every row again (Garter Stitich) until work measures 20 inches long, ending after a RS row.

 

Cast off.

 

 

FINISHING OFF

 

Sew together the cast on & cast off edges and you are done!

 

 

 

NOTE:

 

This headband can be worn on its own OR under a hat for even more warmth. So when donating them you could also give away one with each hat!
